Just before Disney Wish will set sail, the Disney Dream has a four-night sailing from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas from May 30 to June 3. Prices for that sailing currently start at just over $5,000 for an inside stateroom for a family of two adults and two children. Disney Cruise Line has announced that the maiden voyage for Wish, along with the rest of the sailings in its first season, will be bound for the Bahamas, including Disney's private island Castaway Cay. For anyone looking to book a stateroom on one of Disney Wish's sailings next summer or fall, after school resumes, the most affordable option for a family of four runs about $3,200 for the least expensive accommodations.

But at the following year’s D23 Expo, the company announced it would actually be building three new ships. Most likely the Marina Bay Cruise Centre, which is better-equipped to handle mega ships such as this one. The original plans for the ship under its prior ownership also included a casino — Disney doesn’t have casinos on any of its existing ships, so it’s likely that this space will be repurposed for something else on the Disney Adventure. Theoretically, it’s possible Disney could keep the casino given the “new market” targeting, but it’s generally considered unlikely. Given that it’s a standalone ship with no “sister,” we really don’t have much to compare it to. And given that the ship is expected to target an international audience, it’s unclear if any of the traditional Disney Cruise elements might be adjusted (or completely abandoned) to better match regional travel preferences and customs.

Castaway Cay is about 1,000 acres — though not all of it's developed — so it can take a while to talk to and from the ship to different spots on the island. One of the biggest perks of Castaway Cay is that the ship docks right at the island. The ship will continue the Disney Cruise Line tradition of adorning two character art pieces on the hull, giving a nod to smart and powerful women and girls everywhere.

While all cruise ships are equipped to handle most medical conditions onboard, including emergencies, specialized prenatal and newborn care is typically not available. Some other cruise line's private islands, like Norwegian's Great Stirrup Cay, don't have a dock, so cruisers must take tender ships (small boats) from the cruise ship to the island. Over the past decade, I've taken eight Disney cruises with my family and friends. When I book, I always make sure Disney's private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay, is on the port of call. Those who take a cruise on the ship will be able to enjoy spaces, experiences and entertainment themed around stories like The Lion King, Hercules and One Hundred and One Dalmatians.
The golden statue will feature Aladdin and Jasmine riding the Magic Carpet, set within foliage to give it a floating effect. Disney unveiled exterior images and a brand-new filigree artwork for the bow of the ship, which is a Disney Cruise Line signature design tradition. The image depicts Minnie Mouse in a commanding, hero-inspired pose while donning her signature bow, along with a cape. The stand-out, specialty features on this ship are nearly identical to those you’ll find on Disney Fantasy. There’s the AquaDuck water coaster and other, similar water features for families. The third Disney ship ever, Disney Dream was Disney’s first foray into cruising after a long break following the debut of its first few ships.

Currently named Global Dream, the former Genting ship will receive a new name and brand-new look before it sets sail for Disney in 2025. On all three of the newer vessels (Disney Wish, Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream), you'll find large water coasters careening around the top deck — a level of attraction you won't find on the older Disney ships. Another vessel in the same series, known as the Triton class of ships, is on order for delivery in 2025. Disney Magic, for instance, is the ship that Disney sends to Europe every summer for itineraries that are all about exploring cities such as Barcelona and Rome (reached via the port of Civitavecchia, Italy). In all, Disney operates just five cruise vessels — far fewer than such cruise brands as Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line.

Note that the video pre-dates the Disney purchase but has since been retitled to reflect Disney’s ownership. On September 5, 2023, Disney released a significant amount of information on what will be included onboard the ship. The oldest ships in the Disney fleet thus appeal to a subset of Disney fans who prefer more intimacy in a cruise vessel and don't mind giving up some onboard amenities to get it. The newer Disney cruise ships also are home to kiddie waterslides, decktop kiddie play areas and several pools apiece. The ships' insides are loaded with huge children's play areas, family entertainment and even adults-only venues.

From October 2023 through February 2024, Disney Wonder will sail out of Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane in Australia, as well as Auckland, New Zealand, on a series of two- to six-night "Disney Magic at Sea" itineraries. The last ship currently scheduled to be fully built (from start to finish) specifically for Disney’s fleet is due to arrive in 2025. Sharp-eyed readers might notice that in the newer concept art, the ship has “lost” one of its three red smokestack funnels and now has only two — mirroring the other ships in the Disney fleet. The sixth ship of the Disney Cruise Line fleet — and the next one to begin sailing — will be named the Disney Treasure. The 129,690-gross-ton, Dream-glass ship can welcome 4,000 guests onboard, and is also home to 1,450 international crew members. The Disney Treasure’s forward funnel suite will be the EPCOT-inspired Tomorrow Tower Suite. Specifically designed to evoke World Discovery, the suite features “dynamic art pieces, molten metal accents and futuristic, colorful glass accents.” It will be able to sleep eight guests. On the second night, Miguel will reunite with his great-great-grandparents, Hector and Mama Imelda, by transporting them to Santa Cecilia with the help of his magic guitar for a Día de los Muertos celebration.
